Charles and Sarah, "Grandad" and "Nana", established our family farm at the turn of the century during the early 1900's. They had dairy cows and grew produce, as agriculture was the prominent way of life. "Farmer Brown" as he was known, started our "pick your own" with strawberries. A family story that has been passed on is that Grandad would give pickers an area in a row marked for them with lathe and that was where they picked... "or else"! Grandad farmed until his passing in 1960.
Charles and Sarah had nine children, their second from the youngest, Noel E. Brown was the next "Farmer Brown"! He and Dorothy, with their brood of seven, five boys and two girls, enhanced the pick your own to include blueberries, raspberries and apples. Dad added greenhouses, some for growing beautiful annuals while others housed tomatoes and cucumbers. His sweet corn was infamous.
Through the years Dad and his eldest son, Mark expanded their pick your own to include many vegetables and greens throughout the growing season. Dad like his father farmed until his passing in 2010.
Noel and Dorothy's children and grandchildren are continuing the family's pick your own tradition, with their great grandchildren waiting in the wings.
We look forward to seeing you at our farm. We are at the base of Provin Mountain just north of the intersection of North West Street and North Street Extension.
We had a wonderful PYO strawberry season. It is always so wonderful to see those who have been picking at our farm for years, often starting the tradition with their grandparents and parents. It is also exciting to welcome those who have just found us and sometimes are strawberry picking for the FIRST TIME!
We will see you all next year.
We closed our PYO strawberries on Sunday, July 2nd. We will spend the summer taking care of those strawberry plants to make 2018 picking wonderful.
We will not have PYO Blueberries or Apples.
